KINGSTON, April 23, 2025: The Police Civilian Oversight Authority (PCOA) will commence a comprehensive inspection of the St. Andrew Central Division on April 23.
The St. Andrew Central Division encompasses eight police stations and posts: August Town, Cross Roads, Half Way Tree, Matilda’s Corner, National Stadium and Papine stations, and the New Kingston and University of the West Indies (UWI) posts. Of note, only the Cross Roads and Half Way Tree are prisoners in custody (PIC) stations, with Half Way Tree being the division’s largest PIC station.
This divisional inspection is a standard component of the PCOA’s annual inspection schedule. The objective is to evaluate the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) adherence to its policies and internationally accepted policing standards, ultimately leading to recommendations for enhanced efficiency, performance, and accountability within the JCF. The inspection covers several key areas, including: records management, which entails the examination of essential station records such as the Station Diary, Firearm Register, Sudden Death Register, General Property Book, and CR-10 at all stations and posts. PIC stations will undergo review of four additional records; and, station administration, which involves an assessment of internal station inspections conducted by the division.
The UWI Post is the reigning Area 4 Top Station in the Transforming Our Police Service (TOPS) Competition.
Under the PCOA Act of 2005, the PCOA is responsible for the inspection of police stations, lock-ups and other agencies of the JCF.
